Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9:6

These passages of the prophet speak about Jesus 750 years or so before Jesus was born
– an indication of the inspiration of the scriptures.
The two verses teach about the uniqueness of Jesus:
1: JESUS WAS A UNIQUE CHILD ( Isaiah 9:6 )
“For unto us a child is born”
Unique because of the manner of his birth:
“A virgin shall conceive” ( Isaiah 7:14 )

Why a Virgin Birth?
Could not have been our sinless saviour without it.
Sin comes through the Father’s line. ( Rom 5:12 ) ( Rom 5:19 )
What prevented the baby being contaminated with his mother’s sin?
The overshadowing of the Holy Spirit. ( Luke 1:35 )
What was the result of the virgin birth and the protection of the Spirit of God?
A Sinless Saviour.

2: JESUS WAS A UNIQUE GIFT ( Isaiah 9:6 )
“Unto us a Son is GIVEN”
Jesus is spoken of throughout the Bible as being God’s Given Gift

3: JESUS WAS A UNIQUE SON ( Isaiah 9:6 )
Only one Son of God – Only one Jesus Christ.
Christians are called sons of God – but only One Son of God
– John 3:16 “ONLY BEGOTTEN” Matthew 3:17

4: JESUS IS A UNIQUE RULER ( Isaiah 9:6 )
“and the Government shall be upon his shoulder”

“and his name shall be called WONDERFUL“
Why wonderful?
Sinless — Full Of Grace and truth. ( John 1:14 )
Precious blood — Reflects the glory of God ( Heb 1:3 ) ( John 14:9 )
6: JESUS IS A UNIQUE COUNSELLOR ( Isaiah 9:6 )
All we need in times of CRISIS ( emotional/ bereavement/ Loneliness )

7: JESUS IS A UNIQUE GOD ( Isaiah 9:6 )
“The mighty God” – proves Deity of Christ ( Isaiah 10:21 )

“And shall call his name IMMANUEL”

POINT ONE:
The Characteristics of those who we SHOULD NOT associate with.
a: They Refuse spiritual living waters ( v 6 ) ( Isa 5:24 ) ( Jer 2:13 )
b: They Rejoice with those who are enemies of God ( v 6 )
c: They will overwhelm the believer if he is not walking with the Lord. ( v 7 and 8 )
d: They will seek other spiritual sources for guidance. ( v 19 )
e: They will NOT speak according to the word of God ( v 20 )
f: They have NO spiritual light in them ( v 20 )
g: They will look to the things of earth rather than the things of God. ( v 22 )
POINT TWO:
The Results of associating with those we should not.
a: We shall be BROKEN in pieces ( v 9 )
b: We shall achieve NOTHING. ( v 10 )
c: We shall STUMBLE. ( v 14 and 15 )
d: We shall be SNARED. ( v 15 )

e: We shall FRET and FEAR. ( v 21 )
f: We shall BACKSLIDE: ( v 21 )
“Curse their King and their God”
POINT THREE:
How to Resist those we SHOULD NOT associate with.
a: DO NOT form a CONFEDERACY with those who are wrong ( v 12 ) ( 2 Cor 6:17 )
b: Sanctify the Lord of Hosts in your Heart ( v 13 ) ( 1 Peter 3:15 )
c: DO NOT take counsel with those you should not associate with ( v 10 )
d: Make the Lord of Hosts your sanctuary ( v 14a )
e: Stand on the scriptures No matter what it costs. ( v 16 ) ( v 20 )
